Colleen Maki, LCM Service and Social Justice Intern

Colleen grew up in Eveleth Minnesota on the Iron Range. She ventured to the west to study political science and religion at the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks. During her time at UND she developed her passion for social justice by getting involved with Christus Rex (Lutheran Campus Ministry at UND) and leading a student group called the Friends of Fair Trade. After graduating in 2012 she served in Cuernavaca, Mexico as a missionary through the ELCA’s Young Adults in Global Mission program. Colleen served an organization called Ddeser, the Network for Sexual and Reproductive Rights. This transformational experience allowed her to see God’s call to love thy neighbor in a global and borderless way. After her year in Mexico, Colleen traveled to Spain to teach English for a year at the University of Castilla – La Mancha, Ciudad Real.

When she isn’t cuddled up knitting or reading Rolling Stone Magazine, Colleen can be found exploring the twin cities looking for new coffee shops, pubs, and thrift stores. Colleen also has a passion for fashion and can help you pick an outfit for any occasion!
