be community.

We are a people called together to bear one another’s burdens and to share in one another’s joy. We also know that the U can be a big place where it’s hard to form meaningful relationships and find your place. Sharing meals, picking apples, or hiking MN’s trails, going on retreat and hanging out in general are all easy ways to get to know some really good and interesting people. Here are some ways we do it:

pause (weekly student worship), Wednesdays at 9pm, Grace University Lutheran Church. Join others in giving your hearts, minds and souls the “pause” we yearn for – to laugh and pray and sing and consider what it means to put our faith in action. Come to connect with others and with God, reflect on your faith and pray for a world in need.

Intergenerational Sunday Morning Worship  Students are a vital part of the intergenerational ministries of both Grace University Lutheran Church (Stadium Village) and University Lutheran Church of Hope (Dinkytown). Worship with either community, sharing in word and sacrament, on Sunday mornings at 8:30am and 10:30am.

Tuesday Soup There is such a thing as a free lunch!  This is a weekly gathering for lunch and fellowship.  Stop by Grace (324 Harvard St. SE) over your lunch break on Tuesdays.  Soup (free!) is on from 11:30am-1:00pm.

Fall Retreat This year it’s on a lake in Wisconsin!!  We’ll be going to Heartwood Retreat Center to reconnect with ourselves, each other and God.  We sing, pray, and do a lot of hanging out.  It’s October 6-8, cost to you is $50, thanks to generous donors.  If the remaining cost is an issue, we can subsidize further.  Please email for more information or to sign up!

This event will be partially funded by SSF. SSF Logo

Social Events are scheduled regularly – as well they should be. Check the calendar to see what’s up next!

Spring Break Service Trip Another great way to get to know others, while putting your faith in action.  We’re still deciding where we’ll go in 2018. Keep your eye out for updates!  In the past, we’ve gone to Holden Village, Chiapas (a state in southern Mexico), learned from and served with the Pueblo people near Albuquerque, participated in a border immersion in Tijuana, gone to NYC on an interfaith service trip with students from Al Madinah, a Muslim group on campus, and cleaned up houses on the Gulf Coast (for a couple years after Katrina).  It’s always affordable, and always a good time!  Email Pastor Kate at with questions or for an update.

Love in Action is a page devoted to all of the ways that you can put your faith in action through service work, justice making, and outreach on campus and beyond. There’s rarely a better way to get to know people quickly! Whether traveling over spring break, or showing up in solidarity with people building awareness about mental illness, this is a chance for us to explore all of the ways God shows up in our lives and in the world.
